Our goals and services

Our goal is to provide academics, governments, international organisations and NGOs with information for research and evidence-based evaluation of public policies.

We do not offer information or counselling to individuals interested in acquiring the citizenship of a particular country and we do not encourage experts in our network to answer such requests.

"The European Union Democracy Observatory is an excellent source of information on citizenship in Europe. Working as I do on justice and civil liberties issues in the European Parliament, I find the EUDO website very useful for the research, case-law and news it provides"

Citizenship links

Here you will find a set of links to the websites of national, European and international organisations (both governmental and non-governmental), leading academic research centres, networks, projects and journals dealing with citizenship. The organisation pages provide official information on the conditions and procedures for citizenship acquisition and loss. The academic research pages indicate the range of research relevant to issues of citizenship acquisition carried on by each centre, network or project. In addition to providing information about their activities and publications, in many cases these sites allow you to download documents directly.

The journal links indicate journals which regularly feature articles relevant to citizenship in a number of disciplines, including law and political science. The text of a significant number of the sites is in English; some have multiple language versions which can be chosen on their home page, while others provide information mainly in the relevant national language or languages.

Both institutional links and journals were ranked according to their different degree of focus on issues pertaining to citizenship.
