Dora Kostakopoulou is Professor of European Union Law and European Integration at the University of Southampton, and Director of the Centre for European Law (CELS). Formerly, she was Jean Monnet Professor in European Law and European Integration and Co-director of the Institute of Law, Economy and Global Governance at the University of Manchester, where she spent twelve years, and Jean Monnet Lecturer at the University of East Anglia and deputy director of the Centre for European Law and Practice (1996-1999). She has been British Academy, Thank Offering to Britain Fellow (2003-2004) and recipient of an Innovation Award by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (2004-2005). The financial support of these bodies enabled her to complete her second research monograph on The Future Governance of Citizenship which was published by Cambridge University Press in 2008 (Law in Context Series). Projects have also been funded by UACES, The European Commission and Norface. She is currently working on ‘The Reconceptualization of European Union Citizenship’ (Jean Monnet/Lifelong Learning Programme, 108,970 EUR) in collaboration with Professor Elspeth Guild (Centre for Migration Law, Radboud University Nijmegen) and Professor Cristina Gortazar (Comillas Pontifical University, Madrid) and is writing a book on The Evolving European Migration Law and Policy (Under Contract, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge Studies in European Law and Policy).

Her research interests include European Public Law, Free Movement of Persons, European Union Citizenship, the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice, Migration Law and Politics, Citizenship, Multiculturalism and Integration, Democracy and Legitimacy in the EU, Law and Global Governance, Political Theory and Constructivism, and, fairly recently, Equality Law.
